I watched a documentary on beauty and art today "Why Beauty Matters" by Roger Scruton. It was quite interesting, explaining that artists these days are getting lazy, not being creative enough, and not creating truly "beautiful" pieces of artwork. Also, that anything can be "art", but is it truly art? If you want to watch this documentary it is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiajXQ… **Warning though, it is a bit suggestive and later in the documentary shows some offensive art pieces to the Christian world.** But it does spread an interesting concept to how modern art is affecting our world.
And this got me thinking... am I truly an artist?

No, not really. Looking through my gallery I find that most of my photographs were taken at the spur of the moment, being at the right place at the right time. That isn't art is it? A piece of art is a piece of work. I probably didn't work as hard as I hoped when I took those pictures. This also applied to my drawings and sketches... there isn't true work, time and effort put into them... it is just there. Sigh... so what shall I do about my art-less art? Well, I have set a new goal. With my photographs I will really think about the composition and what I want in a compelling photo. And in my drawings I will practice the proportions and spend plenty of time on a single piece. This girl will be a real ARTEEEEST! ;)

Better stuff will be submitted on here for sure, as this is an art website and if I want to get better this is the way to do it! Thanks for all the support, comments, faves,... llamas? :)

Well, in other news, this summer has been great! June is passed and I finally decided to get on my summer homework. :XD: I also have been watching my first episodes of le famous show Doctor Who! And I can say it is good! I get very caught up in the whole story! The only problem I have though is the aliens are a bit strange, but that's what makes it so cool. :) The episode I just watched was when Catherine Tate tags along on the Tardis. Oh yeah, so great! Summer band is also over, so I am a bit more free to get some things done which is always good! Our field show is going to be pretty epic with Sherlock Holmes (American) music, it's going to be fantastic! I am doing wonderfully, how are all y'all doing? What are your plans for the summer? I would love to hear from you good folks!

A bientot! :)

I'm such a slacker. I haven't even considered my summer homework, yet. :XD:

Spring is so pretty and summer is nice and hot and free! ;)

I just like Autumn because of how cool and crisp the air is, the brown and red leaves are gorgeous! And I love wearing jackets and sweaters, as well as marching band and my birthday in that season! :)

Oh, I see. :D You have reasons for liking fall. I hate long-sleeved shirts and jackets. The only things I have to look forward to are Halloween and Thanksgiving. :P

The way I look at it is anyone who actually tries to define art or say what is or isn't art is a darn fool fighting a losing battle :surrender: I mean I have my own opinions as to what is real art and what isn't, but... who am I to make that decision? Whatever that documentary is is just the opinion of a bunch of art purists
But that doesn't mean it's not good to try harder, because the fact of the matter is the stuff that has had more time and effort put into it will almost always be more widely liked and admired. Things like composition, proportions, and a well developed style are what separate good art from all the riff raff, and no one can argue with that :P

Yeah art in general is such an opinion. That is kinda good though, if it was a set thing it wouldn't be as great. :)
